“Ophelia Rising ”
Journey: My journey began with yoga. It took me months to get up the nerve to go to my first class. In the back of my mind I knew it was what I needed, but to begin something new, in my very
non athletic or flexible body was terrifying. I had a teacher in college who asked us to read a book, called “Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway”. In that book, the author talks about how it is basic human nature, to not change our patterns or behaviours until the pain we are currently experiencing is greater than the fear of change. So here I was, in pain...a recent divorce, 2 young sons, new to the single mom life and I was terrified to make anymore changes in my life. You see I felt like I was barely hanging on, and any shift could bring it all crashing down...again. However, the first class I finally made it to in 2011, felt like bliss. I knew at that moment I would be a teacher someday. Yoga felt like dancing with my soul.
I attended classes fairly regularly for about a year and a half. I did find it challenging to make
as many classes as I wanted to, since I worked late nights as a bartender/waitress. In 2013 I
remarried, and shortly after the wedding found out I was pregnant. This was an unexpected
surprise, but we were excited. Not long after this the pregnancy became difficult, and after
several ER visits I was put on bedrest for 8 weeks. This was one of the most challenging
times in my life. Eventually I was able to return to work and a gentle yoga practice, but by 30
weeks I was again told to rest as much as I could. My daughter was born in April of 2014,
healthy and happy. Post birth complications caused even more issues for me, I was
hospitalized and needed an emergency D & C. I fell away from my practice, putting family
ahead of my own self care, as so many women do. In 2016 I had my 4th child, a fierce baby
boy. This pregnancy had not been easy either, gestational diabetes and 4 days of being
induced sapped so much of my zest and vitality. This little dude was not an easy baby, and
within 6 months I was feeling so isolated, angry and depressed. I knew there was only one
way back to myself.
I made time for yoga daily. Before any housework or mom duties were touched I took care of
me. I began journaling again, I read and made time for creative projects. I began attending
yoga classes again. I truly believe that when you align yourself to your purpose the universe
will open the pathways for you. When my youngest was a year old my teacher announced
that she was going to be holding a Yoga Teacher Training in a few months. I enrolled without
a second thought.
Not long after my yoga journey began I had also begun exploring natural health and
nutrition. I had suffered from digestive issues my whole life, constantly struggling, never
really feeling very healthy. I used the internet to learn about nutrition, and was really
shocked at what I learned. I found that a diet without gluten, and very little meat or dairy felt
best in my body. I did this with constant experimentation and tried things like being vegan,
and even raw vegan (which did not feel good at all!)
In 2018 I learned about Ayurveda, and began to research it. I had the opportunity to attend a
lecture about this way of living and ancient wisdom at the Banff Yoga Festival that year.
What I learned just made so much sense to me, I knew this was something that needed
further exploration.
Growth: In August of 2017 I began my 200hr YTT. It was glorious in every sense of the word. I loved
spending my days in practice, meditation and learning about the chakras. To be very honest,
I didn't want it to end. I began teaching at Kindred Yoga in January of 2018. I felt like(and
still do) I had this unquenchable thirst for knowledge, as though my mind was being
reminded of things my soul already knew. I continued studying, taking 22 hr training on the
Yoga Sutras of Pantanjali through Yogic Studies. A few months later, I stumbled across a
training for Feminine Form Ayurveda... which involved combining the wisdom of Tantra with
the ancient teachings of Ayurveda. I enrolled in Shakti School with Katie Silcox and many
other brilliant women teachers. I completed Level 1 in December 2019, and am a certified
Ayurvedic Wellness Coach (300hr).
During this training, we had a lecture about Yoni Steam Therapy. I was so moved by the
power of this beautiful, natural healing method. Our teacher spoke passionately about not
only the physical benefits, but also on how this practice could offer healing from sexual
trauma, miscarriage, and hysterectomy to name a few. I knew immediately that I needed to
be able to offer this in my own practice. Personally having terrible periods my whole life, and
desperately needing the energetic healing myself. I knew of many women in my life,
suffering from unnecessary pain, the ghosts of their own traumatic experiences and
struggling with fertility, who could benefit from an alternative treatment.I received my
certification as a Yoni Steam Therapist from the Peristeam Hydrotherapy Institute in
September 2019.
In 2020 I am continuing my studies with Shakti School, in Level 2 of Feminine Form
Ayurveda to become a certified Ayurvedic Practitioner. I am also studying with Mt. Shasta
Temple in a Womb Priestess Shaman training to be able to offer more knowledge on
energetic healing and ritual in my practice.
Service: I offer Ayurvedic Wellness Coaching in private, semi private(you and a friend or 2) or public
group sessions. Ayurveda is for anyone who just wants to feel better, have more energy and
be more in tune with their bodies. The healing methods are tailored to your needs, as we are
all beautiful and unique beings, with different needs for our bodies.
I also offer Yoni Steam Therapy as a tool for physical and energetic Womb Healing.
Physically, Yoni Steam Therapy offers relief and often can eliminate PMS symptoms,
bloating, and cramping. It can be used successfully for treatment of fibroids, cysts,
endometriosis and fertility issues. Sometimes Western Medicine (while incredible in many
instances) can leave patients feeling unheard, brushed off, or treatments of synthetic
hormones for symptomatic relief that will not resolve the problem at its root. Combining
Ayurveda and Yoni Steam Therapy offers a potent natural alternative to women.
Energetically, Yoni Steam offers a beautiful connection to your Feminine energy, opening a
channel to allow us to be more in sync with the energy of our sacred womb. This is so
important, in a world which is so tuned to the energy of the Masculine. Clients often report a
deeper sense of knowing, heightened intuition, creativity and sensuality.
With each client I offer an optional guided meditation which can aid in energetic healing,
particularly when we are working with healing from any sort of womb trauma (sexual,
miscarriage, abortion or hysterectomy).
I also offer monthly Yoni Steam Full Moon Circles, to create a safe space for women to
gather in the spirit of sisterhood. The steam portion is very discreet (we wear long skirts). It is
a beautiful way to hold space for each others healing journey,
I have been called to do this work, to help women find their way back to themselves.
Through the nutritional and nurturing practises of Ayurveda, and the potent healing of Yoni
Steam, it is my deepest hope that you will feel more vibrant, energetic, empowered and
sensual following your experience.
